Let’s be real.   You’re at home on the couch, charger plugged in at the right angle – so why are you still on Mobile Data?   Short answer? You know why – because the Wi-Fi is doing nonsense.   You’re burning data for no reason. Be Honest.   Eish, the struggle is real, neh?   You try to connect, sometimes it even says it works, but nothing happens. You refresh, wait, sigh, then just switch to Mobile Data – and that’s where the problem starts. Kanti, 5 minutes later it’s “you’ve used 80%” and you now have to make The Great Trek to BP to top up your account.   The thing is, Data doesn’t finish – it ESCAPES.   And you’re not even wilding. Just scrolling, watching Reels, replying and maybe one smaaaall update and there goes the SMS of Doom. As for that last 20% of Data? By the time you’re halfway through ama-voice note from the Group Chat that doesn’t like to type, it’s gone, and you’re sitting high and dry.   Now you must calculate days like they’re rent money.   “Okay, maybe if I deep sleep TikTok, I can survive until the 25th”   It’s rough out here. Send help.   The painful truth is that Data is NOT for home. It’s for outside. It’s for the taxi. It’s for load shedding. It’s for when Wi-Fi is weak at gran’s house, or by that stingy uncle who won’t pay for a router. However, because your connection is weak, slow, or moody, your Data is working overtime, which isn’t fair on your phone or your budget.   You see, when Wi-Fi is right, you don’t need to worry. Your phone stays connected, videos just play, updates don’t take six years, and your mobile Data lasts longer than your previous relationship.   So, let’s be real, if you’re Data is always klaar, it might not be because you’re addicted. You might just have a Wi-Fi problem.   Our suggestion? Fix the Wi-Fi, save the Data, relax properly and spend the extra cash on things you really need. Tick all your boxes, and then more, when you get Hypa Home Fibre. It is not panic yet, it’s not anger- still loading. It’s that blank, frozen expression where your soul briefly leaves your body while your phone desperately searches for bars that do not exist.   This time it’s not buffering, Wi-Fi dololo 😭   CONFUSION   HAIBO...  That’s strange. You open your Instagram, nothing loads, you refresh still dololo, you switch to WhatsApp same story. You tilt your phone slightly, as if gravity might help the signal fall into place. Your faces say “Kanti kwenzakalani ?”   DENIAL (AH IZOBUYA)   You tell yourself “Nah it’s just slow iyabuya nou “ufaka I phone ku Aeroplane mode, then off again like you ‘re rebooting the entire country’s network. Your face has hope – false hope but hope, nonetheless.   You walk outside; you stand next to the gate. You move close to the wall sekushubile manje kunini, you lift your phone high like you’re searching for your ancestors 🤣. Someone passes and asks “YINI? UFUNANI LAPHO?” and you reply “Network “. 😒   Your Face is serious. This is serious ukhenyekile klaar .   NOMA, I BAR EY ONE KEH   You start negotiating with the internet Gods, you have been offline for too long and it’s frustrating.   “Just load this one status ..Ngiyacela bandla ”   Your face is pleading. Humble. You have been humbled by your Service Provider (pick your fighter) it’s not HYPA.   ACCEPTANCE (YAZIN’ KU GRAND) 👍   You put the phone down and sit outside while watching the kids play. Ubulisa abomakhelwane uyakhohlwa nyana that dololo Wi-Fi. You remember life before unlimited Wifi  .Your face relaxes😊.   You think, “Kudala sasiphila kanje ”   And Suddelnly ..Network Is Back 💃😊   Your face lights up like someone just said, “There’s free Wi-Fi inside!” You grab your phone fast fast kuyaphuthuma. Statuses, Voice notes and missed calls.   You’re back 😊   May your signal be strong , your Wi-fi be up and may you never have to walk to the gate again just to send a WhatsApp message. Picture this: Sicily 1984…   You’re deep into the season finale of your fave Netflix show. Plots have twisted, murderers are giving speeches – you’re about to figure out the whole thing – when boom!   Playback error – please check your connection.     Name a more frustrating thing (not called loadshedding). We’ll wait.   Or, even better. Mid toddler meltdown. Time to whip out the tried and tested YouTube + Peace combo. Blissful silence for all of 10 seconds, and then…   Spinning wheel. Everything frozen. You have 0Mb Remaining. Enter the depths of tantrumville.   Soul shattering stuff, really.     Seriously – why are we still living like this?   It’s a whole 2025. Cars are basically self-driving. AI is helping everyone pass their modules (remind me to never visit a Dr again), and even your kettle has Bluetooth settings. Yet some of us are still buying airtime from the Tea Room like it’s back to the scratch card days when there are better, cheaper solutions available. Look, we all love our kids.   We love their laugh, their hugs, the patter of their little feet and the way they smile. We can even overlook the crayon scribbling on the wall or trying to remove slime (seriously – WHO made that a thing?) out of our newly washed carpets.   But, let’s face it, when school holidays roll around and they’re at home for days on end, we realise that our little angels can really be Chucky. Well, at least a snack eating, Wi-Fi hogging, chaos inducing 2025 version of Chucky. But no less dangerous.   Kids are already expensive (we had to take out a mortgage just to afford Formula). You can’t afford to buy Data every two days just because Thatho and Werabile are streaming “Ms Rachel” in 4K Ultra HD on an endless loop. And, we can’t exactly say “go play outside” when outside has decided to do its best North Pole impression.   So, what now? Get a call from Childline, or figure something out? Thankfully, we’ve got you – here’s our Hypa Guide to keeping kids busy without wasting Data:     1. Offline Games That Aren’t Boring   Yes, they exist. And no, they don’t involve your phone.   <ul> <li>Treasure Hunt: Hide household items and give them clues. Winner gets a sweet or to choose dinner.</li>   <li>The Household Olympics: Invent challenges. Do spoon and egg races. Even try the famous “who can keep silent the longest” race (trust – it works WONDERS).</li>   <li>Pretend Play: Give them old clothes, pots, and empty boxes (empty boxes are the one – thanks Takealot for your excessive packaging). Boom—instant kitchen, pirate ship, or “shop” with made-up money.</li> </ul>   Kids have imagination. You just need to spark it.     2. DIY Craft Station (Using What You Already Have)   You don’t need to buy glitter and fancy paper. One CNA round alone is the price of a 5 Bedroom in Clifton. Use what’s lying around:   <ul> <li>Toilet rolls? Make binoculars.</li>   <li>Cardboard boxes? Spaceship time.</li>   <li>Old magazines? Let them make “vision boards” or a collage about their “dream pet” (even if it’s a unicorn).</li> </ul>   Pro tip: Put everything in a container and call it “The Creativity Box.” Instant excitement.     3. The Airtime-Saving Movie Hack   You don’t need to stream every time. And if your kid can’t read yet, storytime with funny voices will make you a legend.   Bonus: Some bookshops and libraries have second-hand books for next to nothing. Or, even better, libraries allow you to borrow books and return them once you’re done (outdated, but who would’ve thought?).     6. Use That Hypa Wi-Fi Smartly   Let’s be real: you will give them screen time (it’s the parental version of a panic button). But with Hypa Wi-Fi, you’ve got more control. CAPE TOWN – Internet service provider (ISP) Hypa at Vox has announced that it will be bringing Frogfoot RISE fibre connectivity to households in Vrygrond and Phillipi from July. Hypa, which has built a reputation of delivering affordable and reliable internet services and value-added services to underserved communities around the country, aims to reach up to 80,000 in these areas where fibre has been deployed by Frogfoot Rise.   Vox CEO Jacques du Toit says Hypa has an important role to play in communities. “Access to fast, reliable internet underpinned by fibre enables underserved communities to participate in the global digital economy. It enables access to information and can drive entrepreneurship. All our subscribers have access to uncapped Wi-Fi making it easy for the entire household to connect to the internet.”   Hypa’s National Sales Manager John Githinji says Hypa at Vox will be hiring and training salespeople from within the communities, supporting not only job creation but also more accessibility for the communities of Vrygrond and Phillipi.   “We have designed our offering to be as affordable as possible.  We will also be announcing further value-adds in due course that will further help to provide services to the residents of Vrygrond and Phillipi that are inclusive.”   Ultimately, says Githinji, the mission is to bring the power of fibre into communities that have not had this access until now.   Frogfoot Networks, a licensed open-access fibre network provider, announced last year that it would be piloting Frogfoot RISE, a prepaid, uncapped internet product that is designed to bring fibre connectivity to more South Africans. “We have known since we announced the pilot that the local stakeholders in and around Vrygrond and Phillipi play a crucial role in education, roll out of fibre, conducting activations and recharge campaigns, as well as network maintenance. Having Hypa widening the reach means more people will be able to join the virtual highways connecting communities. Hypa is an ISP that’s aligned with our mission,” says Frogfoot CEO Shane Chorley.

We at Hypa collaborated with Operation Fiela, alongside esteemed partners such as the Sol Plaatje Municipality, Frances Baard District Office, Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, and the Home Affairs Department, in the launch of the Tsoga Mocha Campaign. This groundbreaking initiative, which loosely translates to "Wake Young People," took center stage at the vibrant Galeshewe Stadium on June 17, 2023. As a company deeply invested in empowering youth from diverse and aspirational communities, we recognized the urgent need to align with this impactful endeavour. The Tsoga Mocha Campaign seeks to bridge the gap between services and information, bringing them closer to communities where they are most needed. The primary focus of this event was to rejuvenate and empower our youth, especially those who have felt disconnected and marginalized within their communities, often succumbing to the influence of drugs and alcohol. Through a day filled with engaging activities and informative sessions, we aimed to reignite the spirit of our youth and inspire positive transformation. A diverse array of organizations, including Mme Reka Thusa, Pathways to Change, Grassroots Edges, Blade Health and Wellness, Times Fitness Club, and of course, Hypa, seized the opportunity to share their services and valuable insights. Pathways to Change offered voluntary screenings for HIV and tuberculosis, along with other essential health services, contributing to the overall well-being of attendees. The Sol Plaatje Fire-fighting Service took center stage, demonstrating preventive strategies for fire incidents, showcasing techniques for handling burning buildings, and imparting invaluable fire-fighting skills. These demonstrations not only raised awareness but also empowered youth with life-saving knowledge. Amidst these impactful activities, the stage came alive with performances by talented youngsters. Aspiring rappers seized the opportunity to showcase their skills, expressing how their passion for music keeps them engaged, steering them away from the pitfalls of substance abuse. The Tsoga Mocha Campaign stands as a beacon of hope, embodying the collective efforts of our community to uplift and empower our youth. Through collaboration and dedication, we are fostering a culture of positivity and resilience, paving the way for a brighter future. Join us as we continue to champion the cause of our youth, transforming communities one step at a time. Together, we can awaken the potential within every young person, empowering them to thrive and succeed.
